European Work and Employment Research Centre
The European Work and Employment Research Centre has developed an internationally recognised programme of comparative and interdisciplinary research funded by national and international agencies. This research involves collaborations by academics and research staff from a range of disciplines, including management, labour economics, sociology, geography and industrial relations. EWERC has a strong tradition of publishing both high profile policy reports and high quality academic outputs in journals and books.
Established in 1994 by Professor Jill Rubery in the Manchester School of Management at UMIST, EWERC is now a Faculty of Humanities research centre located in the Manchester Business School of The University of Manchester. It brings together colleagues from across the Faculty of Humanities (including the Schools of Social Science, Environment & Development and Law) and also has strong external networks with longstanding links with many academics from research institutions across the world.
The current EWERC Director is Professor Damian Grimshaw. Core EWERC activities include the regular seminar series, high profile publications, and engagement with policy bodies, employers and trade unions. EWERC provides a hub for researchers and affiliated PhD students, each with connections to one or more of the different research projects.
